Spreading the Word

WAGE was the subject of a very sympathetic column by Jean Tepperman in the Bay Guardian last summer (July 5, 1995, in case you want to look it up). Tepperman exerpted WAGE newsletters she'd been sent and interviewed Sally Fairfax, UCB's former affirmative action officer, and WAGE's newsletter editor, Charity Hirsch.

She also quoted statistics from an article by UC Davis law professor Martha West: women are now 31% of full-time American college faculty, just 5% more than in 1920, the year women won the vote; discrimination is worse because there are many more women with Ph.D.s now; the better the school or the higher the job, the lower the percentage of women.

We always have extra copies of current and past newsletters to send if you know someone who could get the word out to a larger audience.
