Boolean: Case

Does This Sound Familiar?
From Z Magazine, January 1996

Rudy Acuna, Cal State Northridge professor of Chicano Studies, complained of race and age discrimination when he wasn't hired to chair the UC Santa Barbara department, but his case, in which a jury has now found in his favor, revealed the same things women faculty have long alleged. Z Magazine author Elizabeth Martinez calls it "UC's above-the-law arrogance."
The hiring process was secretive and manipulated to achieve a predetermined result, according to Acu–a's supporters. Once Acu–a sued, UC attorneys hunted far and wide for damaging information about him and deluged his lawyers with letters and motions to answer -- UC spent an estimated $4 million before the trial started. Since the trial, the University has fought to overturn the jury's verdict and to avoid having to hire Acuna.
