An Examination of Collegiality
"'Unwise,' 'Untimely,' and 'Extreme': Redefining Collegial Culture in the Workplace and Revaluing the Role of Social Change" is the title of an article by Sumi Cho in the UC Davis Law Review. Cho will be the speaker at the Fall WAGE meeting in November (see page 7). Her article examines legal cases that concern collegiality outside and inside academe, and articles that review the treatment of collegiality in the courts. She concludes with a discussion of "transformative collegiality," a new interpretation of what collegiality might mean in a workplace that acknowledges that "where the workplace is unequal among colleagues, particularly for reasons prohibited by antidiscrimination laws, then the proper work of collegiality is to bring about a state of equality."
