UC Workers Approve Contract
In April, UC clerical workers approved a new contract, ending a two-year discussion
with UC management about wages and workplace safety.
The contract gives workers a 2.5% increase over two years.
Part of the delay appears to have been due to
UC´s assertion that despite its $4 billion unrestricted reserve,
it did not have the resources to fund a 15% wage increase. "We all know the
university has lied to us about their ability to pay us better wages," said
Claudia Horning, president of the Coalition for University Employees. "All UC
funds are 100% committed each year and there are no rainy day reserves full of money
for salary increases," said UC spokesman Paul Schwartz.
