UC Equity Summit
President Atkinson held a summit on faculty gender equity in November. There is much of interest at the
summit Web site (www.ucop.edu/pressummit/welcome.html)
including the text of Jackie Speier´s keynote address and the reports and statistics whose creation
was recommended by the Audit.
In particular, www.ucop.edu/pressummit/materials.html has the following links:
- University of California Data (faculty numbers, new appointments, tenure outcomes, estimated availabilities, doctoral degree completion rates by campus, gender of academic administrators)
- University of California Reports (pay equity, merit equity, UCI ADVANCE program, UCS climate report, equity committees on UC campuses, status of women)
- Reports on the Status of Women from Other Institutions
- UC Testimony Presented at the Legislative Hearings (January 2001 testimony from Chancellor M. R. C. Greenwood (see analysis of statistics presented in Spring 2001 Newsletter) and March 2002 testimony from Provost Hinshaw)
- Policies on Work/Life Issues
- Related Articles (includes Chait and Trower´s Harvard Magazine article "Faculty Diversity: Too Little for Too Long" which gives an overview of the situation of women and minorities in academe, and at elite institutions)
