Class Action Suit Settles at St. Cloud State University
Five women faculty members filed suit against St. Cloud
State University in March
1996 alleging that they had been paid less than comparable
men. Others joined and
the case was certified as a class-action lawsuit. After
mediation, an agreement was
reached in December 2000. St. Cloud State University will
pay $600,000 in back pay
to 250 women who were on the faculty between 1992 and 1998.
Sixty of the women
who are current faculty members also will receive
prospective pay increases totaling
$170,786 per year. Four of the original plaintiffs in the
case will recover an additional
$60,000, bringing the total amount of the settlement
agreement to $830,786. The
plaintifff´s request for attorneys´ fees is
still unresolved.
