From the Spring 1999 WAGE Newsletter.
Judge Sabraw in Department 22 of the Superior Court of California is expected to preside
over the hearing to certify the class that will be represented by the plain-tiffs in this action.
Although the case was originally
assigned to Judge Carson, he is retiring from the bench
and we have a new judge in the case.
Class certification is an important milestone because it determines the number of women
who can potentially benefit from this action. The six plaintiffs come from a broad range of
job classifications, so the class could possibly include women scientists, engineers, administrators,
technologists, technicians and more.
During the past year attorneys for both sides have taken a number of depositions;
these are expected to continue. Plaintiffs are represented by
Gary Gwilliam of Gwilliam, Ivary, Chiosso, Cavalli & Brewer in Oakland and
The Sturdevant Law Firm in San Francisco. The Regents and LLNL are represented by
Morrison and Foerester in San Francisco.
